Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

Task One LLC (operating as Smart Menu Planner) takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you register, we collect your email address. You may optionally set a public display handle (e.g., @PapaK).

Content you create: Recipes, menus, shopping lists, and store preferences you save are stored in association with your account.

Usage data: We log basic information such as when features are used (e.g., number of AI imports) for internal metrics. We do not use third-party analytics.

2. Photos and AI Processing

When you use the photo import feature, your photos are sent to a third-party AI service for processing. Photos are not stored on our servers at any point — they are transmitted, processed, and immediately discarded. The extracted recipe text is returned to you for review before anything is saved. Neither we nor our third-party AI providers use your photos or extracted recipe text to train AI models.

3. Google Login

You may choose to sign in with Google. In that case, Google shares your email address with us to create your account. Google's own Privacy Policy applies to that authentication flow.

4. Cookies and Sessions

We use session cookies to keep you logged in. These are essential for the service to function and are not used for tracking or advertising purposes.

5. Email Communications

We use your email address for:

  • Account activation and password resets
  • Occasional product announcements (new features, important changes)

We do not send marketing emails from third parties, and we do not sell your email address. You can opt out of product announcements at any time by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of those emails. You will still receive essential account-related emails (like password resets).

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We only share your data with trusted service providers who assist us in operating our platform (such as our cloud hosting provider, transactional email service, and the AI service used for photo processing). These providers are bound by strict confidentiality obligations and may only use your data to provide services to us.

We may also disclose your information if required by law or valid legal process.

7. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on a cloud server. We take reasonable precautions to protect it, but no system is perfectly secure. Please use a strong, unique password for your account.

8. Your Rights

You can:

  • View and edit all your recipes and content from within the app at any time
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us

We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA & CalOPPA)

If you are a resident of California, the law grants you specific rights regarding your personal information. Task One LLC (operating as Smart Menu Planner) is committed to respecting these rights for all our users.

  • The Right to Know: You have the right to request a disclosure of the specific pieces and categories of personal information we have collected about you, the sources of that information, and our business purpose for collecting it.
  • The Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete any personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions.
  • The Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you (e.g., by denying you service or providing a different quality of service) for exercising any of your privacy rights.
  • No Sale of Personal Information: We do not sell your personal information to third parties, nor do we share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we do not sell your data, we do not have an "Opt-Out of Sale" button on our site.
  • "Do Not Track" Signals: CalOPPA requires us to disclose how we respond to web browser "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals. Because Smart Menu Planner does not use third-party advertising networks or track your activity across other websites, our service does not alter its behavior or respond to DNT signals.

To exercise your Right to Know or Right to Delete, please contact us. We will verify your request by matching the email address you contact us from with the email address associated with your account. We aim to fulfill these requests within 45 days.

10. Children's Privacy

Smart Menu Planner is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via email or a notice on the site.
